Inman Aligner

Crooked teeth in the front of your smile can make you feel self-conscious and affect how you interact with your friends and peers.  Dr. Art Carpenter offers the Inman Aligner™ to help patients achieve a straighter smile without the hassle of braces. Dr. Carpenter coordinates orthodontic treatment from his office in Kenilworth, IL. What makes the Inman Aligner so different?

Advantages of the Inman Aligner

Rapid Results

Inman Aligner treatment can effectively straighten your front teeth in only six to 18 weeks. Other orthodontic options like braces or Invisalign® take a year or more to produce results.

Discreet Treatment

The outward facing portion of the Inman Aligner is clear, so you won't have to worry about your smile being obscured by unsightly metal.

Affordable Pricing

Because the Inman Aligner works in such a short timeframe, and because only one aligner is required instead of several, our dentist is able to offer it at a lower cost than other orthodontic options.

What Is the Inman Aligner? Discreet Orthodontics

The advanced appliance is similar to a traditional, removable retainer and is shaped to fit around the molars for support. Revolutionary coil springs exert pressure on the front and back of the teeth to gently move them into proper alignment.

The Inman Aligner is an innovation in accelerated orthodontics for cosmetic treatment, and can often provide complete treatment in as little as six to 18 weeks. It can help patients at our practice in Kenilworth, IL, address a number of orthodontic concerns, including:

  • Misalignment
  • Crowding
  • Gaps
  • Rotated teeth

Because the portion covering the front of your teeth is clear, the retainer blends in discreetly with your smile. If necessary, your appliance can also include an expander to create more room for crowded teeth.

Perfect for Minor Adjustments

Many patients who choose this option have previously undergone orthodontic treatment, but have noticed their front teeth shifting because they did not wear their retainer.

Attend a Consultation

During your first appointment with our dentist in Kenilworth, IL, he will examine your teeth and discuss your goals to determine if the Inman Aligner is right for you. If you and Dr. Carpenter agree that this treatment is suitable, he will create a custom treatment plan for you.

Design the Appliance

At your initial appointment, our dentist will make impressions of your teeth. These detailed molds are sent to a specialized lab where highly accurate 3-D printed models are used to create a customized appliance.

Fit the Aligner

After a few weeks, your custom-made aligner will be ready. You can return to our office in Kenilworth, IL, where we will ensure that it fits comfortably. Our dentist will provide you with detailed instructions on how to get the best results with this orthodontic method.

Complete Treatment

Throughout treatment, you will need to wear your appliance at least 16 to 20 hours daily to guarantee the best outcome. If it is worn less often, your treatment timeline may take longer than originally planned. In most cases, you will only need to return to the office every two to three weeks so that we can check your progress.

Enjoy Straighter Teeth

Most patients who commit to wearing their aligners for the recommended amount of time per day achieve a straighter smile in six to 18 weeks. You can expect to have a beautiful smile that you'll love to share with the world.

Maintain Your Results

Once your therapy is complete, you will need to wear a retainer to maintain proper dental alignment. You can discuss the various retainer options available with Dr. Carpenter.

The Oral Health Benefits of Straighter Teeth

In addition to the convenience and comfort that Inman Aligner treatment offers, it can also improve your oral health in many of the same ways that traditional orthodontic treatment can.

Smiling man biting into apple

Crooked teeth can have a profound effect on the way your bite fits together: when your teeth are not aligned properly, it can lead to erosion of the enamel, tooth sensitivity, teeth grinding, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder, and uneven wear. Additionally, crooked teeth can make it difficult to brush and floss effectively, leaving bacteria in hard-to-reach areas. This can lead to a host of other issues, including decay and periodontal disease. Orthodontic treatment can play an important role in preventive care by minimizing this risk and making your smile easier to clean and less prone to wear and tear.

Highly Recommended by Satisfied Patients

High quality, thorough care matched with excellent communication and expertise.  Highly recommend Dr. Carpenter and his wonderful staff.

The Inman Aligner vs. Invisalign

The Inman Aligner and Invisalign® are both popular alternatives to traditional metal braces. They share the same major advantage over braces, which is that they both utilize clear aligners instead of metal brackets to discreetly straighten teeth. Beyond that, however, the two treatment options differ in significant ways:

Focused vs. Comprehensive Treatment

Invisalign is typically recommended for patients who hope to correct crooked teeth or crowding throughout their smile. The Inman Aligner, on the other hand, is specifically designed for patients who want to straighten the front four teeth, either on the top or bottom, and reduce crowding in that area. Inman Aligner treatment is focused, rather than comprehensive.

One Aligner vs. Series of Aligners

The Invisalign system utilizes a series of aligners that are switched out every two weeks. With the Inman Aligner, however, treatment is delivered through only one removable aligner. This makes it a significantly more affordable and more convenient treatment option.

Rapid Results vs. Lengthy Treatment

Because the treatment only focuses on the front teeth that are visible when you smile, patients can achieve their desired outcome much more quickly than with Invisalign. Invisalign trays must be worn 22 hours every day for at least 18 months for the best results. Alternatively, Inman Aligner patients can achieve satisfactory results in only a few months by wearing the appliance for 16 to 20 hours a day.

Inman Aligner FAQs

Will the treatment be uncomfortable?

No. Because the treatment uses gentle pressure, the appliances are usually tolerated much better than braces or other orthodontics. If you experience mild discomfort during the first few days of treatment, over-the-counter pain medication, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen, should suffice.

How long will it take to get used to the appliance?

For the first few days, there is a small learning curve associated with speaking with your new device. However, most patients acclimate to the appliance in about a week.

Won’t my teeth move back after my treatment is completed?

Wearing a retainer after your orthodontic treatment can prevent movement in the future. This is not unique to this treatment method. Retainers are typically recommended to maintain results after any orthodontic treatment.

We typically give our patients the choice between a removable or fixed retainer. The removable retainer should be worn approximately three to four times per week, while a fixed retainer is permanently bonded to the back of the teeth and is not visible when you smile.

Can the aligners be combined with other dental procedures, such as teeth whitening?

Yes. In fact, many patients at our practice, serving Glenview, Evanston, and nearby areas, choose to combine their orthodontic treatment with teeth whitening or porcelain veneers. This offers a comprehensive and dramatic result, but is much more conservative than a full-arch reconstruction.
